1 dead, 9 Hurt In Stampede At GloRilla Concert In New York
According to police, one person was killed, and nine others were injured, including two critically, when the crowd at a rap concert in Rochester, New York, panicked over what they believed to be a shooting and rushed for the exits.
Chief David M. Smith told reporters on Monday that the concert featuring GloRilla and Finesse2tymes on Sunday night resulted in casualties due to trampling people. Smith stated there was no proof of gunfire or injuries at the scene.
Smith reported that as the concert at Rochester’s Main Street Armory concluded shortly after 11 p.m., the crowds leaving the venue began to surge dangerously. The police entered and found three women in critical condition, he said.
On Monday, police said one of the women, a 33-year-old, had died at the hospital, and the other two were in critical condition. According to Smith, seven additional people were taken to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident “last night began as a night of live music and fun for the performer GloRilla and ended in tragedy with one person dead and two more fighting for their lives,” the chief said.

Smith said there is no proof that shots were fired but that police are looking into “possibly crowd size, shots fired, pepper spray, and other contributing factors” as possible explanations for the deadly uptick.
The fatal stampede has been described as “a tragedy of epic proportions” by Mayor Malik Evans, GloRilla who has pledged a thorough investigation. The incident from last night will not go unpunished, Evans vowed.
Memphis native and Grammy nominee for best rap performance with collaborator Hitkidd on their song “F.N.F. (Let’s Go),” GloRilla tweeted, “praying everybody is ok.”
In 2021, at a concert by rapper Travis Scott, 10 people lost their lives due to a fatal crowd surge, one of many such tragedies at concerts and other large events in the United States and worldwide.
As an example of “something that all of us who love concerts worry about,” Evans pointed to Sunday’s stampede.
According to the mayor, who frequently attends concerts by his favorite artists, “If you go to a concert, you do not expect to be trampled. Your loved ones are counting on you to recount the amazing concert you just attended.
