Carrie Fisher Gets Her Walk Of Fame Star, On May the 4th

(LOS ANGELES) – Carrie Fisher was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, a May 4 tribute to a beloved “Star Wars” actor with a dash of stardust.

Billie Lourd, the late actress’s daughter, accepted the award on her mother’s behalf, wearing a metallic gown with her mother’s face printed on it. She threw glitter on the newly exposed star, her mother’s favorite.

“My mother always said you weren’t famous until you became a Pez dispenser.” Every day, people nibble candy from her neck. “I believe you aren’t truly famous until you have a Hollywood Walk of Fame star,” she explained. “My mother is a Pez dispenser with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.” Mama, you did it.”

Mark Hamill, who played Fisher’s space brother, Luke Skywalker, was also present and recalled meeting the young actress when she was only 19.

“She was so important in my personal and professional lives, and neither would have been the same without her.” Was she a pain? Was she a high-maintenance person? Without a doubt! But if she hadn’t been the friend she was, everything would have been duller and less exciting,” Hamill remarked.

Several people in the audience were dressed as characters from the Star Wars franchise, and C-3P0 and R2-D2 were present for the reveal. “Never, ever forget about the droids!” On a rainy day that turned to the sun, Lourd said.

Fisher, who passed away in 2016, joins “Star Wars” co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill on the Hollywood tourist attraction, which honors celebrities from the film, television, music, and other entertainment industries. The trilogy stars may all be seen around the 6,800 block of Hollywood Boulevard, near where the original picture premiered in 1977.

Fisher portrayed Princess Leia Organa, who evolved from a princess to a commander leading the forces of good in their fight against repressive regimes vying for control of a galaxy far, far away throughout six films.

“No one will ever be as hot or cool as Princess Leia,” Lourd stated. “Leia is much more than a character. She’s a sensation. She is a source of strength. She embodies grace. She is astute. She is the epitome of femininity. She knows exactly what she wants, and she gets it. She doesn’t need to be rescued because she rescues herself and the rescuers. And no one could have played her as convincingly as my mother.”

Fans had long lobbied for her to be honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The award is given on May 4th, which is virtually an official holiday for Star Wars fans and is a play on a line Fisher frequently spoke in the movie, “May the Force be with you.”

Devotees worldwide pay tribute in various ways, while businesses organize special deals on Star Wars products.

Fisher received the 2,754th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ford won his star in 2003, and Hamill received him in 2018.

Nominated performers receive Walk of Fame stars; a $75,000 charge is now required to create and maintain the star.
