Kia Recalls Over 427,000 Telluride SUVs Because They Might Roll Away While Parked
NEW YORK — Kia is recalling over 427,000 Telluride SUVs owing to a fault that might let the vehicles roll away when parked.
According to documentation supplied by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft of certain 2020-2024 Tellurides may be partially engaged. Over time, this can result in “unintended vehicle movement” when the automobiles are in the park, increasing the chance of a crash.

Kia America recalled all 2020-2023 model years and selected 2024 model year Tellurides earlier this month, according to NHTSA paperwork. At the time, no injuries or crashes were reported.
The shaft engagement issue is thought to be caused by an improper assembly. The recall affects 2020-2024 Tellurides made between January 9, 2019, and October 19, 2023. Kia America estimates that 1% have the defect.
According to the recall documentation, dealers will update the electronic parking brake software in impacted vehicles and replace any damaged intermediate shafts for free. Owners who have already incurred repair fees will be reimbursed.

Meanwhile, drivers of impacted Tellurides are instructed to manually activate the emergency brake before exiting the vehicle. Drivers can also use the NHTSA website and recall lookup platform to see if their car is included in the recall and learn more about it.
