The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that the recall affects certain X1, X3, and X5 automobiles and possibly other models.
According to the NHTSA assessment, the afflicted vehicles have water pumps with poor sealing, which might lead to fluid infiltration at the electrical plug connector over time. In rare situations, a short circuit and fire are possible.
The water pumps and plug connectors will be inspected and replaced as needed. According to the article, a barrier will be added to redirect any oil that may drop onto the pump from the positive crankcase ventilation system’s intake air house.
