2023: Colleen Ballinger Breaks Silence On Grooming Allegations With Ukulele Song
Colleen Ballinger is telling her side of the tale through song.
In a musical vlog on June 28, the YouTuber, best known for her uncomfortable alter persona Miranda Sings, denied grooming charges and inappropriate connections with juvenile viewers. While plucking a ukulele, Ballinger compared the charges to a “toxic gossip train” on its way to “manipulation station” as the rest of the internet “ties me to the tracks and harasses me for my past.”
“Some people are saying things about me that just aren’t true,” she stated in a sing-song style. “Even though my team has strongly advised me not to say what I’m going to say,” she says, “I realised they never said I couldn’t sing about what I want to say.”
Ballinger, 36, continued by explaining how she used to message her fans “to be besties with everybody” early in her career but “didn’t understand that maybe there should be some boundaries there.”
As a result, the Haters Back Off actress admitted that there were “times in the DMs when I would overshare details of my life—which was really weird of me—and I haven’t done that in years because I changed my behaviour and took accountability.”
Ballinger was accused of grooming her followers earlier this month when YouTuber KodeeRants released screenshots of an alleged text discussion between the actress and her admirers. According to NBC News, the unconfirmed group text was called “Colleeny’s Weenies,” and Ballinger allegedly asked supporters about their “favourite position” during one discussion.
Ballinger addressed the recent internet buzz about her past in her ukulele video, saying, “I thought you wanted me to take accountability, but that’s not the point of your mob mentality.” Your goal is to damage the life of someone you dislike while dramatizing your lies and profiting from their demise.”
Colleen Ballinger is telling her side of the tale through song.
“I’m sure you’re disappointed in my s–tty little song, and I know you wanted me to say I was completely wrong,” she said. “I’m sorry, but I’m not going to go that route of admitting to lies and rumours you made up for clout.”
While Ballinger admitted to making “inappropriate jokes” and “many dumb mistakes,” she denied ever sending inappropriate texts to underage followers to groom them.
“I just wanted to say that the most groomed thing I’ve ever done is my two Persian cats,” Ballinger remarked. “I’m not a dog groomer.” “I’m just a jerk who didn’t realise I shouldn’t respond to fans.”
Allegations against Ballinger’s behavior first appeared in 2020, when another YouTube star Adam McIntyre accused her of putting him in awkward situations when he was 13 to 16. In a video titled “colleen ballinger, stop lying,” he particularly mentioned a previous livestream in which Ballinger mailed him lingerie.
Ballinger reacted to McIntyre, admitting that the knickers prank was “completely stupid,” claiming in a separate apologetic video, “I should never have sent that.”
“I don’t know what part of my brain was missing at the time that I thought, ‘Oh, this is a normal, silly thing to do,'” Ballinger continued. “But I am not a monster.”
