Sir Anthony Hopkins Celebrates 47 Years of Sobriety

On Thursday, Sir Anthony Hopkins reached a significant milestone, 47 years of sobriety. In an inspiring video message, the Oscar winner reflected on his battle with alcoholism and urged people to seek help if they are struggling. Hopkins, who will be 85 on Saturday, claims that getting sober saved his life.

“I’m celebrating 47 years of sobriety today,” the celebrated actor began. “This is not a heavy message, but I hope it is useful. I am an alcoholic in recovery. And I know there are people struggling out there. In this day and age of cancellation, hatred, and refusal to compromise, with children being bullied, I say… Be kind to yourself. Be considerate. If someone offends you, stay out of their toxic circle. Enjoy your life. Take pride in your life.”

Hopkins went on to say, “I was in a desperate situation forty-seven years ago, in despair, with probably not much time to live. I simply had to admit one day that there was something seriously wrong with me. I had no idea it was a mental, physical, and emotional condition known as alcoholism or addiction. I’m not an expert on drugs, or on anything else. I don’t know anything. Except that I’ve found a life in which no one bullies me.”

Early in his career, the Silence of the Lambs star admitted he was “very difficult to work with” because he “was usually hungover.” He told his young audience to “be proud of yourself.”

“Don’t let anyone put you down. Anxiety and depression are both natural parts of life. Life is difficult. However, if you require assistance with any addiction or problem, speak with someone. Speak with someone you respect, whether it’s a counselor or a 12-step program “Hopkins went on. “It won’t cost you anything, but it will give you a completely new life.”

Sir Anthony Hopkins described himself as “an old sinner, like everyone,” rather than a “Do-Gooder.”

“So, wherever you are, seek assistance. Don’t be embarrassed, “The star of The Two Popes was added. “Whatever you do, be proud of yourself. Never let anyone bring you down. If you’re going to be angry, make it at them… Celebrate your accomplishments.”

Many of Anthony Hopkins’ famous fans reacted to the video.
