Aerosmith Retires From Touring, Citing Permanent Damage To Steven Tyler’s Voice Last Year
Los Angeles — Aerosmith has announced that Steven Tyler’s voice has been permanently destroyed due to a vocal cord injury sustained last year, and the band will no longer tour.
The renowned band behind singles like “Love in an Elevator” and “Livin’ on the Edge” issued a statement Friday confirming the postponement of the remaining dates on its tour and providing an update on Tyler’s vocals.
“He has worked relentlessly for months to restore his voice to pre-injury levels. We’ve seen him struggle, despite having the best medical team on his side. Unfortunately, it is apparent that a complete recovery from his vocal lesion is not feasible,” the statement read. “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

Tyler said in September that he hurt his vocal cords while performing on the Peace Out: The Farewell Tour. Tyler stated on Instagram that the injury caused bleeding and that he hoped the band would return after a few performances had been postponed.
Tyler’s soaring vocals have propelled Aerosmith’s huge catalog of successes since their inception in 1970, including “Dream On,” “Walk This Way,” and “Sweet Emotion.” Tyler was injured just as they were about to go on a 40-date farewell tour.
“We’ve always aspired to blow your mind while performing. “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument unlike any other,” the band stated in a note to fans on Friday.

“It has been the honour of our lives to have our music become part of yours,” the performers added. “In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”
Aerosmith is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Grammy winner. Its members include Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer.
