2024 Paris Olympics Medal Count
The 2024 Paris Olympics are currently underway and will end on Sunday, August 11, with the closing ceremony.
While there are numerous sports and players to follow, a broad look at the Games returns us to the heart of it all: medals.
Almost all events award gold, silver, and bronze medals to the winner, runner-up, and second runner-up, accordingly. Two bronze medals were awarded in boxing, judo, taekwondo, and wrestling. Medals have been awarded since 1896, and the 1904 Games in St. Louis were the first to use the now-standard gold, silver, and bronze categories.
One thing to keep in mind is that team sports do not increase the total number of medals. Those still count as only one medal.
