2023: Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer Break Up

Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer have lost their Euphoria.

The singer of “Mona Lisa” recently opened up about his prior relationships and issues with codependency, implying he is currently single.

Dominic agreed with host Zane Lowe’s depiction of how love can often be misconstrued as needing someone during his July 5 interview with Apple Music. “That kind of dynamic has actually bled into my romantic relationships,” he stated. “And it is frequently the cause of my relationship’s demise.”

The 27-year-old later explained, “I’m just done being in relationships right now.”

His interview with Apple Music comes only one day after a Los Angeles Times feature revealed that he and Hunter had split, with his freshly released sophomore album Sunburn having songs about their relationship.

Though he didn’t reveal any more details concerning the separation, Dominic did provide an inside look at their relationship and his difficulties with codependency.

“I could make music all around her, which was crazy,” he explained. “I was looking through my songs the other day and came across one I wrote with her.” I thought to myself, ‘Man, it was great.’ But the fact that I’m saying that—that I’m uncomfortable being alone—is a bad thing. So I chose to spend some time alone.”

And, while he admits that “casual sex is easier,” the singer argues that he is a relationship type.

“You shouldn’t f–k anyone you wouldn’t want to hang out with,” Dominic pointed out. “There was a time when I didn’t feel that way and overdid it.” But now I’m attempting to abstain, which is extremely great.” In season two, Dominic initially appeared on Euphoria, and Hunter fueled dating rumors in early 2022. The two were photographed holding hands as they exited West Hollywood hot spots The Nice Guy and Craig’s in January, adding fuel to the flames.

They made their relationship Instagram official in February of that year, when Dominic posted a snapshot of the two kissing on his Story, captioned “happy birthday happy birthday.”

The news understandably overjoyed fans of the show. “Am I yelling?” “YES,” one user replied on Twitter. “Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer deserve every bit of love in the world.” Another person commented, “DOMINIC FIKE AND HUNTER SCHAFER, BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO 2022.”

Hunter and Dominic, for their part, kept their connection fairly covert. Hunter last spoke publicly about their relationship in February.

“I think we can be each other’s safety net,” the 24-year-old told Elle. “I feel like I’ve learned a lot about the effort it takes to maintain it.” Because, you know, it happens, especially in our world. But that’s well worth it to me.’
