1 Victim’s Life Still In Danger After Hamburg Shooting
BERLIN — According to investigators, one victim’s life is still in danger after last week’s massacre at a Hamburg Jehovah’s Witness hall, where a former congregation member killed six people before turning the gun on himself.
Police and prosecutors are still trying to determine why the German man, 35, who has been identified only as Philipp F. by local privacy laws, opened fire.
According to officials, nine people were injured in the shooting during a Thursday night ceremony, including a woman who lost her pregnant child. Seven people had been shot. Six people were still in hospitals on Tuesday, according to senior police officer Uwe Stockmann, and one person’s life was still in danger.
According to the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Germany, the man authorities identified as the gunman was a former member who voluntarily left the organization two years ago.
His departure from the church was “apparently not on good terms,” according to investigators’ statement from last week.

According to Hamburg prosecutor Arnold Keller, there is currently no evidence to indicate that a shooting rampage like the one on Thursday was planned. A website under his name that links to a self-published book titled “God, Jesus Christ, and Satan” is under investigation.
Keller told reporters in Hamburg, “It can’t be ruled out that Philipp F. acted out of hatred toward this community given the recent history about the connection between Philipp F. and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. “Today, it cannot be said with certainty if the crime’s underlying motivation is to be located here.”
According to Stockmann, the evidence pointed to the culprit acting alone, and there were no signs that he belonged to a network or held far-right beliefs.
According to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, there are 47 congregations in the port city of Hamburg, home to roughly 4,000 members. The congregation holding a service when the incident occurred had about 60 members, and I was one of them.
There are about 8.7 million Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide, with 170,000 living in Germany. The religious movement’s main office is in Warwick, New York, which was established in the United States in the 19th century.
